A company's stakeholder environment consists of (among others) employees, customers, partners, the neighbourhood and social organisations. The ecological environment can therefore be seen as a stakeholder as well. One way of defining the scope of stakeholders is by including everybody or everything that is influenced by or influences the company. A more narrow definition stakeholders merely includes those whom the company relies on (financially) or those who carry an amount of risk in the organisation, for example due to financial investments.
CSR means communicating openly with stakeholders, by providing honest information on how the company deals with social issues and sustainability (transparency), by candidly discussing dilemmas the company faces and by searching for solutions collectively. Although this initially might be a rough patch, it will result in employee and customer loyalty and will improve your reputation as a company in the end.
