Rewarding people for taking care of their fellow human beings has been applied in Japan since the nineties in the form of care exchange systems. A large network of Fureai Kippu's (literally translated as care relationship tickets) arose due to the greying society, consisting of citizens that stimulated each other to participate in society, live independently and take care of one another. The power of this system is the fact that charity gets converted reciprocally wherever necessary. Citizens pay for the effort with credits (points). These received credits can be used to have somebody do something for you, or can be saved up for later, should you become in need of care yourself. The credits can be passed on to others as well, or spent in stores in exchange for gifts.
The Fureai Kippu's inspired Qoin to combine this with loyalty programmes such as NU saving card and Air Miles into a system that rewards desired sustainable behaviour. Sustainable behaviour means buying ecologically responsible products, such as led lights, water savers and biological food, but taking responsibility for others as well. Caring. The City Carbon Card will focus on rewarding behaviour that will influence Planet and People positively.
