Many organisations have experienced the beneficial aspects of CSR projects. Large organisations donate money to cultural activities or sports (e.g. Rabobank and cycling). Supporting non-profit organisations is the first step to CSR. Telecom company Orange helped Warchild for years by appointing the call center employees to register donations during the annual concert. This initiative was adopted by T-Mobile during the merger. Smaller, less visible projects, however, can contribute to local society in a great manner as well. SME's who clean the neighbourhood, or paint the apartments in the local retirement home.
These examples mainly represent a focus on the external environment, whereas a focus on the internal organisation is very important as well. Team building activities, improvement of communication, strengthening human relationships are CSR activities aimed at the People aspect.

Why?

  • It is easy to start with CSR through this first step, because it evokes sympathy among employees. Primary reasons to do this:
  • improvement of your reputation which leads to new customers and customer loyalty
  • stronger relationship with stakeholders
  • higher productivity as a result of team building
  • relaxation, variety
  • contribution to environment
  • cost reduction in the organisation
