The second P, people, concerns the social environment of an organisation. This includes everything that has to do with social and ethical issues, like human resource management, which in tern concerns recruitment, education, competency and assessment. It also means taking account of human rights, respecting the rights of employees and therefore rejecting forced labour, child labour and racism. It means the right to job security, fair wages, safe surroundings, fair trade and fair prices for the suppliers. This is especially important to trade between Western and developing countries, because the farmers in countries in Afrika and South-Amerika, for example, often suffer from exploitation by Western buyers. Offering an additional amount of money to increase the profits for farmers, offering to pay ahead, or giving the guarantee that you will purchase the products are ways of helping them and therefore ways to respond to the people aspect of CSR.
